Chetan Bhagat's 'Revolution' Set as Film for Disney-UTV

LOS ANGELES — India’s Disney-UTV has pounced on the novel “Revolution 2020” by Chetan Bhagat, the celebrated author behind hit movies “3 Idiots” and the recent “Kai Po Che.”

The studio has set Raj Kumar Gupta (“No One Killed Jessica”) to direct the good versus evil drama from mid-2014.

The story follows three young men who turn from friends into rivals as they step out from college into the workplace. “Revolution 2020” sold 800,000 copies in its first month after publication and one a half million copies to date, making it Bhagat’s top seller.

“’Revolution 2020’ is an intense love story, in the backdrop of corruption in the education sector, which exists and affects millions of youth across the country. Set in Kota and Varanasi, the book has held pan-Indian appeal, including in the smaller cities. I expect the film to do the same. I can’t wait for Gopal, Aarti and Raghav to be cast and come to life,” said Bhagat in a statement.

The film will be the sixth adaptation of a book by the former investment banker turned novelist and social commentator. Bhagat’s “One Night @ The Call Centre” was filmed as “Hello;” his “Five Point Someone” was made in Hindi as “3 Idiots” and in Tamil and Telegu as “Nanban” and “Snehithudu;” and “The Three Mistakes of My Life” became UTV’s “Kai Po Che.” Also in the works is “2 States: The Story Of My Marriage” being made as “2 States” for Dharma Productions. click here
