Selection Process
The PSTET (Punjab State Teacher Eligibility Test) is not a recruitment exam but an eligibility test. Candidates who qualify for this exam become eligible to apply for teaching posts in government schools of Punjab. The selection process mainly involves the following stages:
- Written Examination (Paper 1 and Paper 2)
The PSTET exam is conducted in two separate papers. Candidates who want to teach Classes 1 to 5 must appear for Paper 1. Those who want to teach Classes 6 to 8 must appear for Paper 2. Candidates can also appear for both papers if they wish to teach classes from 1 to 8. - Qualifying Marks
Candidates must secure the minimum qualifying marks set by the exam authority. Generally, 60% marks are required to qualify the PSTET exam, although relaxation may be provided to reserved category candidates as per government rules. - PSTET Certificate
Candidates who successfully pass the exam will receive the PSTET eligibility certificate. This certificate allows candidates to apply for teacher recruitment in Punjab government schools whenever vacancies are announced. - Teacher Recruitment Process
After qualifying PSTET, candidates still need to apply for teacher recruitment conducted by the state government. PSTET qualification is mandatory but it does not guarantee a job.
