Graphic India To Launch Digital Comic Series On Krrish Film Franchise

Graphic story telling company Graphic India is releasing an original digital comic series and comic magazine called Krrish: Menace of the Monkey Men, in partnership with Filmkraft Productions (I) Pvt. Ltd., producer of the Hrithik Roshan starrer, Krrish franchise.

Graphic India claims that the series is being written and illustrated by legendary comic book creators, Tom De Falco, Ron Frenz and Sal Buscema, who have worked on comic book characters such as Spider-Man, Spider-Girl, Superman, Thor, The Avengers, among others.

The company says that the series will be released as a comic book magazine, available in stores later this year. It also plans to convert the series into an animated mobile comic that will be released as weekly chapters through an exclusive Krrish Comics App, to be launched by Hungama Digital, its digital partner for Krrish 3. However, the timeline for the launch of the mobile app is not clear yet.

Digital marketing of films: Although the success of this particular series is debatable, this is definitely a significant development in the way production houses are looking to engage with their film audiences.  It is interesting to see how film houses in India are slowly evolving to engage audiences over digital platforms in order to create better impact for their films. It appears that production houses are slowly looking at a 360 degree integration for its marketing by including mobile apps, digital content such as comic series, use of platforms like YouTube to generate interest with their audiences, among others.

However, Graphic India is clearly piggy-backing on the reach of star graphic artists. This is their third partnership with well know graphic artists in the last two months. Graphic India had recently started an animated web-series called 18 Days, that is a reinvention of the Mahabharatha by Grant Morrison. At the time of this launch, the company had also announced its plans to shortly releasing another IP, an Indian superhero in collaboration with Stan Lee, the creator of Spiderman, X-men, among others.

Liquid Comics, previously known as Virgin Comics, had launched Graphic India as its new digital platform to promote comic books and showcase young artists and writers in India. Graphic India currently offers episodic digital comic books like Shekhar Kapur’s ‘Devi’ and ‘Ramayan 3392 AD’; Gotham Chopra’s ‘The Sadhu’; Deepak Chopra’s ‘Myths of India’; Saurav Mohapatra and Saumin Patel’s ’Mumbai Macguffin’; and Samit Basu’s ’UnHOLI’. click here
