Course Content

Foundation

CG Animation students begin their Diploma Course with FX School’s intensive 3-month Foundation course, which provides a critical introduction to the world of CG Animation and Visual Effects. The course enables you to learn some very essential, fundamental skills and gives you a greater understanding of the interrelationship between the different disciplines in a modern production pipeline.


The CG Animation curriculum at the Foundation level helps you to understand the world of 3D vis-à-vis the real world. You will learn the interface and tools of 3D software. You will learn the basic principles of animation, create CG assets and learn how to bring them to life.

·         Navigating 3D Software

·         Real World Camera and 3D Space Camera

·         Modelling Tools

·         History of Animation

·         Introduction to Animation Principles

·         Basic Animation Techniques and Tools

·         Introduction to Matte Painting and the Role of Matte Painting in VFX

·         Introduction to Photoshop and Photoshop tools

·         Introduction to After Effects

·         Animation in After Effects

 

Specialisation

After successfully completing the Foundation module, you will dive deeper into CG Animation and VFX during the Specialisation module. In CG Animation, you will master Modelling, Texturing, Lighting, Rendering and more advanced Animation Techniques. You will create photo-real objects and scenes. In VFX, you will learn fundamental Compositing techniques as well as Motion Graphics, using After Effects. The Specialisation project that you work on will require you to combine all the skills and techniques you learn in CG Animation as well as VFX.

Production Tools

In this module, you will learn advanced concepts and tools in Blender. On successful completion of this module, you will be equipped with superior technical skills that will enable you to fit seamlessly in a studio production environment and give you an edge in the job market.

·         Dynamics: Rigid Body and Soft Body Dynamics

Production Project

The aim of this module is to simulate a real world commercial project/scene.This is a three month mentored production course, in which either the individual creates a CG animation shot which does not exceed 15 seconds. The objective is to expose you to a real world production environment with realistic deadlines and pressures.

DFP (Diploma Project)

The aim of the course is to create a high-end short film, from scratch to finish. This is a three month mentored production course, in which either the individual or a group creates a CG animation short. The entire process will be quality, schedule and constraint driven. There will be meetings at regular pre-determined intervals with the faculty to monitor progress.

·         Advanced Tone Mapping (Color Depth, sRGB and Linear Color Space etc.)

·         Advanced Scene Integration Process especially for tackling complex and heavy project files (How to Stabilize CG Scenes for Easy Rendering)

·         Using Kelvin Scale/Color Temperature for Professional Quality Lighting

 

DFP PIPELINE

·         Brief, Script and Treatment note

·         Pre-Production: Storyboarding and Concept Art

·         Modelling, Layouts and Asset creation

·         Texturing to match the visual style of the film

·         Animation Production

·         Final Rendering

·         Post Production
